. . .A new doll was unveiled when I was almost 10 years old, and every girl on the planet was dying to own her. Baby dolls were pushed aside, and suddenly Barbie was the new girl on the block. Although I would have been happy to own one, I was no longer playing with dolls, so I watched as other girls ravished the toy aisle in search of their first Barbie doll. I still remember the excitement, and never has a more cherished doll been the object of such affection for so many girls.
When my daughter was old enough, I couldn't wait to buy her a Barbie, and truth be told, I was more enthusiastic about the doll than she was. Her chubby little fingers couldn't change the clothes, and when she got frustrated, I would try to calm her down, but even I had trouble putting on those skimpy little outfits on a doll that had perfect adult proportions.
50 years have come and gone, and there's still something magical that happens when a girl walks through the Barbie doll section at the ToysRUs. In celebration of the event, Jonathan Adler was asked to design a Barbie doll home. This house is a girl's dream come true.
