. . .while I was on my cruise to the western Caribbean, Haiti was struck by an earthquake so powerful that its capital, Port au Prince is now in ruins.
Once the Liberty of the Seas landed in Miami, it restocked the ship, took on new passengers, and proceeded on to its next cruise. Labadee, a port on the other side of Haiti, and an area spared by the earthquake, was one of the ports of call, and the ship brought much needed supplies to those in the capital city.
Thousands and thousands of people are dead, and despite daily efforts, countless people have vanished. The world has responded with huge donations, and man-power from America is being brought in to help this country out of the devastation.
Each and every one of us can help, if only by sending a few dollars, or a pair of shoes that you don't need.
The Red Cross needs us, so give up a bottle of water, or something else that you can do without, and help those that need it more than ourselves.
Text the word "HAITI" to 90990 to make a $10 donation to the Red Cross. You will see the donation on your cell phone bill next month.
Men's, women's and children's shoes are being collected by Sports Chalet stores, and will be sent to Soles4Souls, an organization that will distribute them to the Haitian people.
Locations of Sports Chalet in San Diego: Pt. Loma Plaza, University Towne Center, and Westfield Mission Valley.
Make the effort, and it will make you feel that you have the power to help someone who is dire need.
