. . .I never posted my pictures from the cruise I took in January, to Belize, Cozumel, and Puerta Maya.
I went with a group of long time friends and family: my sister Dorothy, her husband David, my friends Jack and Judy Morgenstern, Jack's mother Gussie, Jack's sister Marcia, and my friend and roommate Julie. Gussie is a Holocaust survivor who goes to schools throughout San Diego and speaks about her experiences surviving the Holocaust. Once on the ship, we met another larger group of Holocaust survivors and their families. Some of these survivors have cruised together for many years, so it was easy to become friends almost immediately. By the end of the cruise I felt like I had a whole new set of relatives, many living on the East Coast and Canada.
The weather was unbelievably cold, windy and rainy when we arrived in Miami, actually the coldest in history for the month of January, but once we got out to sea, the sun came out and it felt almost like July in San Diego.
The cruise ship this time was the Liberty of the Seas, which was much larger than any of the other cruises I have taken. The larger the ship, the more people (over 3,600), and the more wait time in the dining areas, but the ship was filled with all kinds of attractions that make it a floating amusement park.
The on-board adventures included a surf park, full-size boxing ring, H2O Zone water park with ground geysers, 9-hole miniature golf course, rock climbing wall, ice skating rink, and even a Ben and Jerry's and Johnny Rockets restaurant.
